Permits are required for every location improvement within the City of Rensselaer and its two-mile buffer-zone.  Location Improvements include but are not limited to: Residential Additions / Renovations, Commercial Additions / Renovations, Residential and Commercial New Builds, Accessory Buildings, Swimming Pools, Mobile Homes and Attached Decks.  If you are unsure about whether you need a permit for work being done, please contact the City of Rensselaer Building Department at 219-866-2311.
